Our Story of Resilience and Growth
Our Beginnings
A Better Tomorrow Services is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2007 by Emmanuel Exilhomme, a Haitian immigrant, mental health worker, and U.S. citizen.
With a deep commitment to supporting immigrant families, Mr. Exilhomme started A Better Tomorrow to provide English language education, workforce training, and access to social services. Operating with a small team of ESOL teachers, CNA instructors, and volunteers, he created a trusted pipeline to better opportunities for low-income families in Greater Boston.
Workforce Development and Family Support
At the heart of A Better Tomorrow’s work is our focus on economic empowerment through education and training.
We offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at multiple competency levels, leading to our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program, which is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services.
Graduates are connected to job placement opportunities through partnerships with Associated Home Care, Medford Visiting Nurse Association, and the Partners Healthcare Workforce Development Program. We further strengthen families through civic education, one-on-one counseling, and referrals to local health and social service resources.
COVID-19 Challenges and Impact
Like many nonprofit organizations, A Better Tomorrow faced profound disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our programs—including ESL classes, CNA training, and family support services—were forced to pause due to mandatory shutdowns. We also mourned the tragic loss of several dedicated board members to COVID-19. Between 2020 and 2024, the organization had no operations and no active income.
Despite these hardships, our mission remained unchanged: to uplift, educate, and empower immigrant families in need.
Our Rebirth and New Programs
Today, A Better Tomorrow stands renewed and reinvigorated with a newly elected Board of Directors and a fresh commitment to community impact.
In 2023, we proudly launched our Food Pantry Program to combat food insecurity within our community, providing nutritious food to families in need. Alongside food distribution, we are offering nutrition education to promote healthier living and maximize food resources.
We are also expanding our services to include financial literacy workshops, job readiness training, parenting support programs, and youth leadership initiatives. Our tutoring and homework assistance programs ensure students receive academic support, while GED preparation and ESL classes empower adults to pursue better career opportunities.
Our community-building efforts include organizing health fairs, neighborhood clean-ups, and cultural events that foster connection and pride among residents.
Our Commitment to the Future
A Better Tomorrow Services is fully committed to operating with transparency, accountability, and the highest ethical standards.
We pledge to uphold all reporting and compliance requirements set by the IRS and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to maintain our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Our future plans focus on expanding partnerships with local businesses, schools, and healthcare providers to maximize impact, reduce resource gaps, and empower the next generation of immigrant families to thrive.
Together, we are not just rebuilding — we are creating a better tomorrow for all.
